Ames: Continuing construction tasks for the Valley Leach Facility (VLF).
Planning: Continuing construction activities and scheduling for the VLF.
CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES AND PROGRESS:
1) Earthworks
A) VLF (PSSA, Phase 1, and 2)
Note: An Amec Foster Wheeler field professional monitored fill material temperatures during fill
placement; average structural fill temperatures were above 32°F. All construction materials
placed were verified as suitable, and construction methods were in accordance with project
technical specifications.
Structural Fill:
The following Structural Fill haul to fill and grading activities occurred:
Cat dozers placed Structural Fill in the vicinity of UG #6588. A Cat excavator hammered
oversized material. A Cat smooth drum roller compacted the fill area.
Cat dozers graded the slope beneath the ball mill in the vicinity of HM 15+00 to HM20+00,
FM14+00 to FM16+00, JM8+00 to JM12+00, and FFO+00 to HHO+00.
A Cat D8 dozer and two Cat smooth drum rollers compacted subgrade using a thrust block and
cable between stations C10+00 and C11+00 (elevation 9550' to 9650').
A Cat excavator removed excess Structural Fill in the vicinity of the tertiary underdrains installed
between stations A14+00 and A17+00. Cat 740 haul trucks hauled the material to C16+50. A
Cat dozer placed Structural Fill above the tertiary underdrains installed between stations A14+00
and A17+00.
