June 9, 2015 C-1996-084/Lorencito Canyon Mine JHB
wattles. NECC needs to re -anchor these sections of the wattles to assure good soil contact and reduce the
incidence of runoff undercutting the wattles. Limited seeding of these repairs would be considered normal
husbandry of rill & gully repair. This should facilitate stabilization of this slope. (photo 7)
NECC has constructed a temporary ramp west of Drainage D20 (Map 2.05.3-7 Culverts and Ditches) to allow for
access to repairs. (Photo 8) Once NECC no longer requires this ramp, it will be removed and reseeded.
A gully is starting to form on the south side of this drainage, D20. Vince indicated that this slope is scheduled to
receive hydroseeding. Repair of the gully and directing runoff into the armored channel was discussed with Ron
onsite.
NECC has repaired a gully that formed to the south of Culvert C5. Perennial grasses are beginning to emerge
within the repaired area. Wattles are staked across the slope. There has been some undercutting of some of the
wattles. Re -anchoring is needed to keep this repair functional. The inspector took a rough reading (using a cell
phone application) of the slope between the top of berm above (north) of this repair and the bottom of Culvert C5.
The reading was 3.4 degrees which should allow for positive drainage through Culvert C5 and keep the run-off
directed away from this repaired slope. If the hay bales are no longer needed to control the runoff on this slope,
they should be removed. If bales are still desired to control runoff until the permanent vegetation becomes
established in this repair, the bales need to be replaced. (Photo 9)
DOCUMENTS RECEIVED NA
OTHER (SPECIFY) NA
ENFORCEMENT ACTIONS/COMPLIANCE
No enforcement actions were initiated as a result of this inspection, nor are any pending.
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 8
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 4
Page 4 of 6
