The Golden Eagle Mine is a recalimed
underground mine. The majority of the permit has previously received final Phase III bond release. All that
remains is a small, —I acre, site consisting of a reclaimed vent shaft. The remaining reclaimed shaft site is located
north of Colorado State Highway 12, in a Pinyon -Juniper community and predominantly south facing. The
approved reference area is located on the south side of Colorado State Highway 12, in an open grassland pasture,
and is north facing.
The focus of this inspection was to observe vegetation data collection by NECC's contractor, Arcadis. NECC
anticipates using the vegetation data for submittal of a final phase III bond release application. Vegetation
sampling was initiated on 6/8/2015 by Arcadis.
The region has had a very wet spring with the Purgatory River and tributary creeks running with high flow.
Afternoon and evening thunderstorms occurred 6/8, 6/9 and 6/10. Many areas of the state are under flash flood
warnings due to recent weather conditions.
Ron Thomspon, representing NECC, met the inspector on site.
Jocelyn Finch and John DuWaldt of Arcadis were conducting vegetation sampling.
HYDROLOGIC BALANCE - Rule 4.05
Drainage Control 4.05.1, 4.05.2, 4.05.3; Siltation Structures 4.05.5, 4.05.6;
Runoff from the reclaimed site is handled well, and not creating rills or gullies on the reclaimed vehicle
access routes. Run-on from the property to the north is creating a gully on the far north edge of the permit area.
NECC has installed hay bale check dams to control the run-on and repair the gully.
