May 20, 2015 C-1982-057/Seneca II -W Mine JHB
REVEGETATION — Rule 4.15
Vegetative Cover; Timing:
Shrub Plot located east of Pond 16 is showing sign of good Boxelder survival. Some mountain
mahogany is viable as well. This unfenced shrub plot has a fair amount of seedling mortality, however, the
Boxelder seedlings appear to be thriving.
The vegetation throughout the mine site is responding favorably to the available moisture. Houndtongue is
present throughout the site, but scattered throughout the reclaimed areas and not in any one concentrated area.
Small patches of Canada thistle were encountered but none in a level that would be considered an infestation.
Regular weed management and control should be implemented as approved in the permit.
SLIDES and DAMAGE - Rule 4.12:
Previously identified slumps and areas of instability appear stable at this time. There was no sign of
recent movement of the previously identified areas, nor were any new areas of instability identified.
Repairs to PM -4-1) drainage and PM -4-A, B and C were holding up well. The operator is considering reinforcing
the riprap on the outfall of Culvert PM -10 as some rock movement in this rip rap drainage was realized this
spring.
Culvert PM -11 and outfall slope looked very good, with no additional repairs needed in this area.
The snow fence held up well. The living snow fence is becoming established. Some seedlings have been pulled
out of the ground, presumably by ungulates. The Ponderosa pine appear to be surviving better than the juniper.
It is early in the spring, so observations during the summer should provide additional survival information. Weed
barrier has pulled up on some of the seedling strips. The operator may remove some of the fabric and see how
well the seedlings do without the barriers.
DOCUMENTS RECEIVED NA
OTHER (SPECIFY) NA
ENFORCEMENT ACTIONS/COMPLIANCE
No enforcement actions were taken as a result of this inspection, nor are any pending.
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 7
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 4
Page 4 of 6
