Erosion
control wattles were in place below the Work Area Pond; the need for maintenance of theses BMPs should be
continually monitored. The leak at Prospect Pond could not be assessed since water was discharging through the
weep holes.
Other observations regarding the ponds:
Gossard Pond needs to be cleaned.
No problems were observed with any of the embankments of the ponds.
No problems were observed with spillways of the ponds.
Some emerging vegetation was seen on the Prospect embankment.
The ditch above the Gossard Pond was inspected. Sediment was almost up to the weep holes on the stand pipe.
This ditch gets cleaned routinely per Kurtis Blunt, since it gets a steady load of coal fines from the Gossard plant.
ROADS — Rule 4.03
Construction 4.03.1(3)/4.03.2(3)
Drainage 4.03.1(4)/4.03.2(4)
Surfacing and Maintenance4.03.1(5) and (6)/4.03.2(5) and (6)
Reclamation 4.03.1(7)/4.03.2(7):
The haul road near the administrative building was being cleaned of mud during the inspection. No significant erosion was seen.
SPECIAL CATEGORIES OF MINING — Rules 4.22 through 4.27:
The highwall miner was producing E seam coal along the eastern wall; it has advanced to approximately
half way along the east side (hole 170).
