'10
' D'WS10" OFREC
Contact phone number for Mr. Heintz: 303.806-8952MAI't6Ai,
DA1D SAFETY
Dear Mr. Heintz:
We have reviewed your letter dated August 1, 2014 and the additional information
received on April 10, 2015 requesting a substitute water supply plan ("SWSP") in accordance
with S 37-90-137(11), C.R.S., to cover depletions caused by mining operations at the Duckworth
Pit operated by Martin Marietta Materials ("MMM" or "Applicant") along Boulder Creek. The
required fee of $257.00 for the renewal of this substitute supply plan has been submitted
(receipt no. 3666011). The SWSP was originally approved on July 20, 2005, and was most
recently renewed on January 27, 2014.
This SWSP supersedes and replaces the previous SWSP, which was approved through
October 31, 2014.
Plan Operation
Duckworth Pit is located in Section 16, Township 2 North, Range 68 West of the 6th
P.M. Mining operations commenced in November 2012 and are projected to occur in two
phases over a period of four to five years. As of August 2014, Phase 1 area (approximately 12
acres) and the north half of Phase 2 area (approximately 17 acres) have been lined with a
compacted clay liner. It is anticipated that from August 2014 through December 2014, the
remaining 15 acres (south half of the Phase 2 area) will be fully mined, therefore mining is
expected to be completed on the south half of the Phase 2 area by December 2014 and the
liner of this area by March 2015. Dewatering on the south half of Phase 2 will occur to allow
for dry mining of this area. Operations that will consume water include exposing ground
water, dewatering, mining and removal of product, and dust control. Replacement water will
come from water stored in priority in Heaton Reservoir, dewatering credits from the
Duckworth pit, changed Rural Ditch shares and excess accretions from MMM's South Platte
Combined SWSP (WDID 0202581).
Office of the State Engineer
1313 Sherman Street, Suite 818 • Denver, CO 80203 • Phone: 303-866-3581 • Fax: 303-866-3589
www.water.sta te, co.us
