April 28, 2015 C- 1994- 082/Yoast Mine JHB
At the top of the Pond 10 access road is a patch of whitetop. Control of this patch is needed. This patch is
driven through for access to Pond 10 discharge monitoring. Continued crossing of this whitetop patch will
continue to spread this noxious weed.
It was indeterminate if the weed spraying on the Jointed goatgrass at the access to topsoil stockpile B was
effective. It appears there is some resprouting. This patch needs to be treated again prior to seed set. After
spraying, SCC needs to provide seed to any bare spots as a result of weed management.
Vegetation at the site overall looked very good. Vegetation growth seems advanced for the time of year with
species not usually observed in bloom until later in the season already blooming. For example, Arrowleaf
balsamroot, and Lupine. Few noxious weeds were noted. Houndstongue is present but usually dispersed and not
in concentrated patches.
SCC needs to continue the weed control program,
SLIDES and DAMAGE - Rule 4.12:
No new slides or slumps were identified. Previously identified and monitored slides do not appear to be
changing or moving.
TOPSOIL — Rule 4.06
Removal 4.06.2; Substitute Materials 4.06.4(4); Storage and Protection 4.06.3; Redistribution 4.06.4:
SCC treated weeds on the travel route to topsoil stockpile "L ". Although the weeds appear to have
been effectively treated, bare patches remain. SCC needs to apply a permanent seed mix on these bare
spots to limit the potential for reinvasion by noxious weeds. This is a normal husbandry practice for weed
control and would not be considered interseeding.
DOCUMENTS RECEIVED None
OTHER (SPECIFY) NA
ENFORCEMENT ACTIONS /COMPLIANCE
No enforcement actions were initiated as a result of this inspection, nor are any pending.
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 7
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 3
Page 5 of 7
