The weather was cool and <br />overcast. The mine had received a soaking rain and snow event the preceding evening (4 /27).The mine site and <br />roads were muddy and soft. Care was taken while driving on the roads not to drive on roads that were too soft. <br />The mine is a reclaimed surface mine. No buildings or mine personnel remain on the mine site. The inspector <br />checks in and out with mine personnel at the nearby Peabody Sage Creek office. No Seneca Coal Company <br />representative accompanied the inspection. <br />FISH and WILDLIFE — Rule 4.18: <br />A pair of Sandhill cranes were strutting on the Pond 13 embankment. The male appeared to be displaying; <br />hopping and spreading his wings. The birds wandered into the oak brush when they observed the vehicle. <br />Mountain bluebirds were observed at the top of the ridge along LU -2. <br />A herd of Pronghorn were observed along the main access road north of Pond 10. <br />Six grouse were flushed up on the reclaimed slope west of SP06 -1. The observer was unable to identify which <br />species of grouse. <br />HYDROLOGIC BALANCE - Rule 4.05 <br />Drainage Control 4.05.1, 4.05.2, 4.05.3; Siltation Structures 4.05.5, 4.05.6; Discharge Structures 4.05.7, 4.05.10; <br />Diversions 4.05.4; Surface Water Monitoring 4.05.13; Impoundments 4.05.6, 4.05.9; Stream Buffer Zones <br />4.05.18: <br />Pond10 was discharging. SCC has pulled the flume due to needed repairs. The flume remains resting <br />adjacent to the discharge channel. SCC uses either bucket /stopwatch or portable flume for determining discharge <br />flow from pond 10. The discharge looked clear.
