Dear Mr. Hays:
Henderson Mill is providing this written follow -up notice to a phone call made to you on April 16, 2015 at
approximately 2:40pm pursuant to Rule 8.1 and 8.2 of the DRMS.Rules and Regulations.
This notice is regarding a release of water originating from a water line that conveys fire water from the
Mill Process Water Storage Tanks to the adjacent buildings fire suppression system. The release incident
was discovered on April 16, 2015 at approximately 8:00am. The fire water system is a component of the
Mill Process Water Storage Tanks, which are collectively designated as an environmental protection
facility. When the leak was discovered, a reported volume of 0.5 to two gallons per minute was reported
as coming to the surface immediately adjacent to the hydrant installation. It is not immediately evident
how much water flowed from this location, but the water surfacing reported to the nearest storm drain,
which, in turn, reports back to the tailing facility.
The following paragraphs correspond to the elements of the follow -up written notice set forth in Rule
8.2.3, paragraphs (a) through (e), of the DRMS Rules and Regulations:
(a) After discovering the issue, Henderson employees promptly isolated the hydrant and
valve to the line to stop any additional release.
(b) The water release did not adversely impact human health, property or the environment.
This is based on the known chemistry of the water and the location of the event. Water
flowed to a storm drain nearby and reported to the tailing storage facility.
(c) The contact person for this event is:
Tim Haynes
19302 County Road 3
Parshall, CO 80468
Phone: 720 - 942 -3518
(d) No monitoring or analyses were performed for this situation since the water from the fire
line was not released off -site and did not impact any natural water body.
Climax Molybdenum
COLORADO OPERATIONS
:„Henderson -Mill
A Freeport- McMoRan Company
193Q2,county.Road 3
. , Parshall;`CO 80468
_
• ' Ph'o'ne (303);569 -3221 '
April 23, 2015
g
Via Email, and USPS Tracking #: 7006 2150 0001 8832 9277
i'AWR;•',:::• :"
DMSIONtOF RECITATION "
Mr. Peter Hays
mmw AND SAFEW
Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
1313 Sherman St., Rm. 215
Denver, CO 80203
Re: /Follow-up Notice for Fire Water Line Incident, Permit No.
M- 1977 -342
Dear Mr.
