April 21, 2015 C- 1996 - 083 /Bowie No. 2 Mine JDM
Gob Pile #2
Gob Pile #2 was wet due to recent precipitation events. A large portion of the wind -rowed materials on bench #5
were spread and graded at the time of the inspection. A portion of bench 44 was also spread and graded. Small
pools of water were observed on the pile in the vicinity of the idle equipment.
GOB Pile Bench 94
GOB Pile Bench #5
During the inspection equipment was in the process regrading a roadside ditch to alleviate the water and allow it to
drain from the access road.
Lateral ditches D -F10, D -F11, and D -F6 were in good condition with problems noted.
Gob Pile #3
Material was being compacted on the west side of the gob pile at the time of the inspection. The material noted on
the west side of the pile during the March 2015 inspection has been graded and spread with compaction activities
on -going during the inspection.
The under drain was discharging at the time of the inspection with a trickle discharge.
No problems were noted, with the exception of the following:
- Refuse material on the east side of the pile contained pooled water throughout. The Division understands that
this is a common occurrence after recent precipitation events; however, this area should be graded in such a
manner that no pooled water is on the pile.
Gob Pile 44
Reclamation of the west side of Gob Pile #4 is completed. Cover material is placed on the three lower benches
that have been backfilled and graded to final configuration. The upper bench remains open for additional refuse
placement. Topsoil has been placed and erosion control mat is in place. A small amount of vegetative growth was
observed on the pile at the time of the inspection.
ROADS — Rule 4.03 Construction 4.03.1(3)14.03.2(3) Drainage 4.03.1(4)14.03.2(4) Surfacing and Maintenance
4.03.1(5) and (6)14.03.2(5) and (6) Reclamation 4.03.1(7)14.03.2(7):
All roads in and around the facilities area and off -site locations were wet and muddy, but stable with no problems
noted.
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 13
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 3
Page 5 of 7
