April 21, 2015 C- 1996 - 083 /Bowie No. 2 Mine JDM
Items noted during the March 2015 inspection that have been addressed include:
- Culvert C -1323 was damaged at the inlet of the apron. This culvert has been addressed and no problems were
noted.
- Culvert C44 was approximately 1/4 full of sediment from the outlet to approximately halfway into the culvert.
This culvert has been cleared with no problems noted.
- Ditch D -J3 contained heavy sediment and has lost some design. This ditch has been cleared; however
approximately 4" of sediment remains in the areas of the ditch with minimal positive flow. Due to the minimal
slope of the ditch, sediment will tend to drop out during the course of flow. The ditch remains stable with no signs
of damage. Continual maintenance will be required to ensure that the sediment build -up does not jeopardize the
integrity of the ditch.
- The outlet of ditch D -C4 on the north side of the Portal Bench was blocked from coal material before the ditch
could enter culvert C -C4. This area has been addressed with no additional issues noted.
.zeft' AW -1 '40L
Ditch D -C4 Cleanout to Culvert C -C4
On -going maintenance items include:
- The northwest corner of the Terror Creek shaft pad rock -lined down -drain has been breached on the west
side of the drain. This area has slight down -cut and light erosion. This area should be addressed to ensure
that all run -off through the rock -lined drain is contained within the drain.
As noted in the March 2015 coal complete inspection, ditch D -1337 is designed to flow south along the conveyor
line between culverts C -1326 and C -1313. Culvert C -1313 then conveys the D -1337 flow to B- Gulch. Due to down -
cutting of D -1337 the operator cut a new ditch to carry flow from D -1337 to B -Gulch on the west side of the
conveyor, rather than realigning D -1337 to C-1313. BRL must maintain D -1337 as designed and remove the ditch
carrying flow under the conveyor line, or submit revised designs consistent with the current on -the- ground
configuration.
PROCESSING WASTE /COAL MINE WASTE PILES — Rule 4.10 and 4.11 Drainage Control; Surface
Stabilization; Placement:
Gob Pile #I
Gob Pile 91 has been inactive.
