buckling occurring at centers and cracking occurring near rib side and end lines. In
practice, mining - related subsidence had little or no discernible impact on area roads.
The Thompson well is located above extensive mine workings in the Rex Carbon seam that
were mined prior to Southfield operations. No pre- mining survey of the well was conducted,
and the well has not been monitored for any changes in elevation, structural integrity, water
quality, water levels, or yield. Such a survey would have provided minimal information since
the well was inactive prior to and during mining activities, and has no equipment installed to
pump water. Prior to Southfield mining activities, the well had been repeatedly damaged by
other nearby mining operations before Southfield as described on page 2.04.7 -12 of the
approved permit application.
The Corley Company Well. (Permit No.119459) located in Section 24, is shallow with a
reported yield of 1 gallon per minute, as described on page 2.04.7 -12. There is potential for
material damage to the well or diminution of use as a result of Southfield's mining operations
since room and pillar mining occurred below the location of the well. No premining survey of
the well was conducted, and the well has not been monitored for any changes in elevation,
structural integrity, water quality, water levels, or yield. A determination of any damage
resulting from mining activities would include a current assessment of the physical condition
of the well, water level, and yield testing. This data would then be compared to any
documented information for the well during the period of Southfield's mining operations.
A second well, identified by the Colorado Division of Water Resources (DWR) as
"Corley Company" (Permit No. 75659) is located in SW4, NW4, S19, R69W, T20S and is
reported to be sealed. This well is located outside of the predicted angle of draw limit for
the certified final extent of mining and consequently was not impacted by the mining activities.
No pre- mining survey of the well was conducted, and the well has not been monitored for any
changes in elevation, structural integrity, water quality, water levels, or yield. Such a survey
would have provided minimal information since the well was inactive prior to and during
mining activities, and reportedly sealed.
2.05.6 -57a Revised: 9/2014 RN -06
