Pitch Reclamation Project Colorado Mined Land Reclamation Board — 2014 Annual Reclamation Report
7. LAND OWNERSHIP
■ Over the last several years Homestake has worked closely with the United States Forest Service (USFS)
on a land exchange within the area of the Pitch Reclamation Project. These activities included the
' production of a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment and the eventual signing of a land exchange
agreement between Homestake and the USFS. The USFS also produced the Fossil Ridge I Land
Exchange Environmental Assessment for the land exchange which included analysis of the potential
impacts on a variety of resources (cultural, wetlands,! wildlife, recreation, etc.). A Finding of Non
Significant Impact for the land exchange was issued by, the USFS in September 2013. Transfer of the
land was finalized on January 30th, 2014 and consisted of approximately 700.4 acres described as Tract
38, as shown on Figure 7. The US Government reserved rights to ditches and canals and easements for
' the existing roads (FSR 777.1C, 843.1C and 843.1G). The land was transferred to Homestake as fee
simple with both surface and mineral rights. Tract 38 surrounded patented mining claims covering 206.3
acres owned in fee title by Homestake. Homestake in turn transferred two parcels of land consisting of
' approximately 331.5 acres in Gunnison County, Colorado to the United States of America. Surrounding
the fee land, Homestake also maintains unpatented mining claims. As a result of the land exchange,
Homestake has fee title to an area of approximately 1.5 square miles that surrounds the Pitch
