March 25, 2015 C -1981- 033 /Bear Mine MLT
• Vegetation on the berm surrounding the treatment pond is primarily rubber rabbit brush
(Photo 4). The reclamation plan calls for this berm to be graded into the treatment pond.
• The flood control dike that protects the property from incursion by the North Fork of the
Gunnison was well vegetated and in good condition throughout its length.
• The clean water diversion ditch along the eastern side of the disturbed area was well
vegetated; it does not appear that this disturbance has been regraded. There were a number
of pieces of black 4" flexible drain pipe scattered on the surface (Photo 5).
SLIDES and DAMAGE - Rule 4.12:
Smoke or steam was escaping from approximately four vents on the cliff above the Edwards
portal. Two vents were located within and the rest were located above the erosional scarp
(Photo 6).
• The surface of the slide mass is jumbled and irregular, but generally well vegetated. It did
not appear to have moved recently (Photo 7).
REVEGETATION — Rule 4.15
Vegetative Cover; Timing:
• The vegetation was just starting to "green -up" for spring.
Tamarisk trees near the portal spring have been cut off at their stumps. There were a number
of smaller Tamarisk plants shooting up on the bank of the treatment pond (Photo 4).
FISH and WILDLIFE — Rule 4.18:
• Elk tracks, trails, and droppings were distributed throughout the facilities area and across the
reclaimed portal road and slope.
An abundance of fresh turkey tracks covered the reclaimed facilities area (Photo 8), and a
pair of Canada geese flew in to land on the surface of the treatment pond.
ENFORCEMENT ACTIONS /COMPLIANCE
No enforcement actions were initiated as a result of this inspection, and none are anticipated.
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 6
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 3 Page 3 of 7
