Live herbaceous production was collected using a harvest method. All the current
year's herbaceous growth including grasses, forbs and sub - shrubs was clipped in 1/2 m2
quadrats. Quadrats were placed at the 2 and 7 meter mark on each transect. Clipped
vegetation was bagged. The clipped vegetation was dried in ovens at Colorado State
University (CSU) for 10 days and then weighed. Bag weights were subtracted from
the biomass calculations.
Results
Revegetation sampling was conducted on June 4, 2012 and June 4 -6, 2013. This time
period coincided with maximum vegetative growth potential and development of the
majority of plant species found in both the native vegetation community and the
reclaimed area to be evaluated.
Table 1 - Summary of Vegetative Data
2012 Data
The 2012 data represents a drought year in the North Fork of the Gunnison area.
