the Hawk's Nest Mine.
Backfilling and Grading
All areas have been appropriately backfilled and graded to the approximate original
contour at all locations. All reasonably available spoil in the permit area was utilized.
Backfilled slopes are compatible with the post mining land use of wildlife habitat.
Edges of all the disturbed area blend well into the adjacent, undisturbed areas. While
all of the reclaimed slopes at the Hawk's Nest Mine are, generally, gently sloping and
short in nature, there are two large post - mining drainage channels. One is at the lower
portion of the East Mine and the other is at the upper portion of the West Mine. Both
of these drainages are trapezoidal, riprapped channels. They have filled in nicely with
vegetation and remain stable. The Division believes that these drainage channels will
remain stable for the long -term. The requirements of Rule 4.14 have been met to the
extent applicable.
Topsoiling
All topsoil was redistributed at this site. No topsoil stockpiles remain. Distribution of
topsoil over the regraded areas improves the chances for revegetation success over
the bond liability period and reduces the likelihood of erosion problems developing.
Areas of exposed spoil and overburden materials were not observed during the final
field inspection, indicating all areas received at least a minimal application of topsoil
prior to reseeding. There are several locations that have less topsoil than others but
these areas still have a good stand of perennial vegetation. The topsoil distribution at
the Hawk's Nest Mine is adequate to allow for the success of the post - mining land
use of wildlife habitat.
Revegetation Sampling Methods
As part of the termination of jurisdiction process, the Division conducted revegetation
sampling at the Hawk's Nest Mine on June 4, 2012 and June 4 -6, 2013. The East
Mine, West Mine and Bleeder Entries were set up as separate sampling units. Data
was collected on vegetative cover and herbaceous productivity.
Prior to collecting the field data for cover and production, a map was prepared with
GPS coordinates for the sampling locations. Random points were created in each
location for sampling. In 2012, 14 Points were sampled at the East Mine, 2 at the
Bleeder Entries and 15 at the West Mine. In 2013, 9 Points were sampled at the East
Mine, 2 at the Bleeder Entries and 9 at the West Mine. Cover was collected along a
50 -meter transect at the East and West Mines and a 10 -meter transect at the Bleeder
Entries (due to its small area). An optical 10 -point bar was placed perpendicular to
the transect every five meters along the transect. A point - intercept observation was
made at each 10 -cm interval along the one meter point bar for a total of 100 points
per transect. Data was recorded on field sheets and analyzed in the office.
Hawk's Nest East and West Mines Termination of Jurisdiction (SL -01)
C- 1981 -016 February 24, 2015
