called RiverWatch). Flow data was collected at a USGS monitoring station, also labeled 5988 on
the sampling location map shown in Figure 3. However, flow data was not always present when
hardness samples were collected.
Y
1 =v
Afma
Ctpk Cnw
fAtIN .
GiICi a
j 5J1]
 SHit]
'u+rerww.ar,. It was decommissioned
in 2005 for reasons unknown but likely related to funding, according to a phone conversation with
a USGS Representative from the Colorado Water Science Center in July of 2014 [3]. Hardness
data was found monthly starting in 1992 and ending in 2006. Because of the lack of corresponding
hardness -flow data on some dates, it was difficult to calculate hardness corresponding with
periodic low flow criteria. Because of this fact, an approximation for hardness downstream were
calculated by taking the average hardness values of the months that are typically classified as low
flow months. The months used for this approximation include all months of the year except May,
June, July, and August. This approach resulted in an average hardness of 150.2 mg/L as CaCO3-
The supporting data and calculations resulting in this value can be seen below in Table 4.
