Exhibit D - Mine Plan
ORIENTATION
1. Rebkffien BFiek Company General Shale Brick, Inc. has operated the Buffalo mine since
1955. This application is a conversion amendment to CMLRD permit M- 1978 -11 (Buffalo 41
Mine). A portion of permit M- 1978 -12 (Buffalo #2 Mine) is included in this conversion, as
indicated on Exhibit C -1, Plat 1; Affected Land Map. Those portions of M- 1978 -12 not included
in this conversion have been reclaimed and release is Pending complete. All areas identified in
Exhibit A- Legal Description should be considered part of permit M- 1978 -11. The combined
areas are now identified as the Buffalo Mine.
LOCATION AND ACCESS:
2. The location of, and access to, the Buffalo Mine, is identified under Exhibit B -Index
Map. Access to Phase III can be found in Exhibit C -2, Plat 3; Phase III Mine Plan Map. The
access road to Phase III will not be reclaimed and will remain as is for the landowner's future
use.
GEOLOGY
3. Geology of the area is detailed in the addendum located at the back of this exhibit.
Generally, excavation will affect from 0 to 20 feet of overburden, and from 0 to 40 feet of clay
deposit, with an average lowering of the affected existing contours of 20 to 25 feet.
CURRENT CONDITIONS
4. The condition, status, and extent of existing mine operation is shown in Exhibit C -1, Plat
1; Affected Lands Map. All areas ( Pre -law, original Limited Impact Permit, and Previous
Amendment disturbances) were lacking soil and vegetation resources prior to excavation. An
unaffected knob exists with the amendment area. Located to the Northeast of the Original
Limited Impact permit area, this relic proves supporting evidence that the pre -mine condition of
the affected lands was the result of natural process. The predominant environmental condition
for the area, as evidenced by the relic, was an outcropping of calcined clays that limited the
development of soil and vegetation that is typical on surrounding lands.
5. The areas identified as Pre -law disturbance, where such disturbance have not been
reaffected by mining activities, are being graded into a more stable and desirable landform
configuration. These areas may also contain stockpiled clays in order to minimize disturbing
areas presently stabilized by vegetation.
PROPOSED MINE PHASING, SEQUENCE, DIRECTION, AND RATE:
6. Mining and reclamation will proceed in sequence across the site as illustrated on Exhibit
C -2; Mine Plan Map. The intent is to direct excavation toward previously disturbed areas first,
prior to affected new lands.
