All the acreage of this
soil is in native range that is used for summer grazing by sheep, cattle, deer and elk.
(Capability unit V11e-2, non-irrigated; Alpine Slopes range site)
Historical Placer Mining and Tailings
Placer mining and tailings is a level to steep land type in the northern part of
Chaffee County and throughout Lake County. Most of t he mapped areas are in the
vicinity of Granite Lake and Twin Lake.
The original soil was disturbed, overturned, and redeposited while miners
were washing alluvial and glacial d e p o s i t s for the recovery of gold. Historical
mining left a very uneven, rough, scarred surface. Slopes range from 0 to 65 percent.
There is very little plant cover. These areas, for the most part, are wasteland.
(Capability unit V 1 1 1 s -1, non-irrigated)
December 28, 2014
Colorado Division of Reclamation Mining and Safety
Gold Basin Mine, Inc.
Gold Basin Mine
Granite, Colorado
I
