Surface runoff is rapid, and the hazard of erosion is moderate. All the acreage of this <br />soil is in native range that is used for summer grazing by sheep, cattle, deer and elk. <br />(Capability unit V11e-2, non-irrigated; Alpine Slopes range site) <br />Historical Placer Mining and Tailings <br />Placer mining and tailings is a level to steep land type in the northern part of <br />Chaffee County and throughout Lake County. Most of t he mapped areas are in the <br />vicinity of Granite Lake and Twin Lake. <br />The original soil was disturbed, overturned, and redeposited while miners <br />were washing alluvial and glacial d e p o s i t s for the recovery of gold. Historical <br />mining left a very uneven, rough, scarred surface. Slopes range from 0 to 65 percent. <br />There is very little plant cover.
