10/22/2014 State.co.us Executive Branch Mail - Fwd: Request for Water Well Info on Vento Property
ao Inactive Dewatering Well)
Third, according to Table 11 ( "Well Permits ") in the Southfield permit, Dorchester Coal had permits issued on
2/22/1980 for three wells on Vento Property. I believe these three wells are the Liberty 2, Zenith 2, and Manley 3
wells. However, a check of DWR's files indicates that in fact applications for these three wells, along with
applications for eight other wells, were all denied on 2/22/1980.
Fourth, I can find no record on DWR's website of well permits being issued for MW -16, MW -23 or MW -NW.
Similarly, none of these three wells is listed in Table 11 ( "Well Permits ") in the Southfield permit.
Finally, the groundwater monitoring plan for the Southfield Mine (Exhibit 25) requires monitoring of wells MW -16,
MW -23, MW -65 (located on property other than Vento), and MW -NW. The groundwater monitoring plan
additionally states on Page 4 of Exhibit 25 that, "the monitoring sites MW -7A, MW -713, MW -8, MW -10 and MW-
22 were originally included in the monitoring program. These wells have been intercepted by underground mining
activities or have caved and have been eliminated from the monitoring network ". These last five wells (MW -7A,
MW -76, MW -8, MW -10, and MW -22) do not appear to be depicted on Map 12, nor listed in Table 11, nor listed
on DWR's website, so I do not know at this time if any of these five wells were drilled on Vento property. I will
ask Janet when she returns from Annual Leave tomorrow if she might happen to know the locations of these five
wells.
Dan
Daniel I.
