Tegre Corporation
Job No. 3124JS057
The laboratory test results were used in the development of the recommendations contained
in this report.
3.3 Analyses and Report
Analyses were performed and this report was prepared for the exclusive purpose of
providing geotechnical engineering information and discussion. The scope of services for
this project does not include, either specifically or by implication, any environmental
assessment of the site or identification of contaminated or hazardous materials or
conditions. If the owner is concerned about the potential for such contamination, other
studies should be undertaken. We are available to discuss the scope of such studies with
you.
This geotechnical engineering report includes a description of the project, a discussion of
the field and laboratory testing programs, a discussion of the subsurface conditions, and
design recommendations as required to satisfy the purpose previously described.
4.0 SITE CONDITIONS
4.1 Site Description
The project site is located west of County Road 213 on a mesa overlooking the Animas River
valley (see photographs in Figure 5). The sides of the mesa slope down sharply, with the top
of the mesa on the order of 200 to 300 feet higher in elevation than Animas River valley to
the east. The proposed gravel pit area is generally relatively flat, and slopes down from the
northwest towards the southeast, with approximately 200 feet of elevation differential
across the site. Contour lines depicting the site topography are provided on the attached
Site Topography Map (Figure 4). Cobbles and boulders with a clayey sand and gravel matrix
underlain by sandstone bedrock are exposed along the slopes (See photographs in Figures 6
and 7).
The majority of the site is typically vegetated with mature pinion and oak trees. There are
two large meadows near the central portion of the site that are vegetated with grass,
weeds, and sagebrush.
4.2 Area Geology
The Soil Survey of La Plata County, Colorado, published by the United States Department of
Agriculture, Soil Conservation Service indicates that the site soils belong to the Ustic
3 G
