Ms. Richardson <br /> Page 3 <br /> January 12,2015 <br /> 8. The Applicant has stated that concrete and asphalt may be recycled through the on-site <br /> plants. Please clarify if all of the recycled material will leave the site as product or if some <br /> will remain on-site to be used as backfill material. <br /> 9. The Mining Plan calls for maintaining a vertical distance of no less than 40 ft. between the <br /> pit floor and the Denver Water Tunnel. Please specify the horizontal distance between the <br /> Denver Water Tunnel and the open pit to the south of the tunnel. <br /> 10. The Applicant has stated that security fencing and wildlife fencing will be installed upon the <br /> completion of the reservoir. The cost for installing fencing must be included in the bond <br /> calculation. Please provide the following additional information regarding the fencing: <br /> a) Type(s)of fencing to be installed, e.g. chainlink, three strand, etc. <br /> b) Dimensions for each type of fencing(length and height). <br /> 11. The Mining Plan map illustrates the contact zone between the basalt and the underlying <br /> shale. Please specify if shale will be exposed along any point of the western quarry wall. <br /> 12. Table D-2 outlines the various stages of mining and reclamation. Please specify if these <br /> stages will occur sequentially and indicate at what point during the operation the north <br /> platform will be backfilled. <br /> 13. The Mining Plan calls for a continuous slope of 65° on the east side of the quarry. Please <br /> describe the mining methods which will be used to create a continuous slope. <br /> 14. The Mining Plan calls for blasting the basalt to create a series of benches on the western side <br /> of the quarry. Please clarify if the benches will require any additional grading in order to <br /> achieve the proposed final dimension of the benches. If so,provide detail on the mining <br /> methods used to achieve the final grade. <br /> 15. Please specify how often blasting is conducted and specify if all of the blasted basalt is <br /> removed from the benches before any subsequent blasting is conducted. Also, specify the <br /> average volume of material that must be removed from the benches after each blasting event. <br /> 16. The Mining Plan calls for stockpiling basalt fines along the quarry edge. Please clarify if this <br /> practice will continue once the foot print of the current quarry is expanded. Also, specify <br /> which sides of the quarry will have stockpiles,this information is necessary to calculate the <br /> financial warranty which includes factors such as haul distance of topsoil. <br /> 17. The Ralston Quarry has several stormwater control structures in place on the southwest side <br /> of the quarry and has committed to maintaining them over the life of the mine. Please <br />
