If so, specify
how the trees will be properly disposed of or dispersed.
2. Please specify if the proposed mining operation will be conducted year-round. If the mine
will not be operated year-round, then please commit to backfilling all trenches at the end of
the mining season.
3. The proposed mine site is located on U.S. Forest Service land and as such members of the
public will have access to your site. Please describe how you will safeguard the trenches
while active mining is taking place. The Applicant may consider erecting safety fencing
around the perimeter of all open trenches.
4. The applicant has stated there is an existing road to the proposed mine site. Please specify the
dimensions of the existing road and clarify if you will be accessing the site by vehicle or by
foot.
5. The Applicant has stated there are existing hand-dug pits which are being backfilled within
the proposed permit area. In accordance with Rule 6.3.3(1)(f),please specify the dimensions
of any existing disturbances to the land surface such as pit excavations or stockpile areas. In
addition, please specify if the Operator intends on reclaiming these disturbances.
6. The Applicant has stated the slopes within the proposed permit area do not exceed three
percent. The Division has reviewed a topographic map of the area and it appears the slopes
within the proposed permit area are significantly steeper than three percent. Please describe
what measures will be taken to control erosion at the site. The Division recommends
installing silt fencing around all excavations and topsoil stockpiles. A copy of the best
management practices for silt fencing has been enclosed with this letter.
6.3.5 Exhibit D—Reclamation Plan
7. The Applicant has stated the site will not be revegetated since the existing vegetation at the
site is sparse. The proposed post-mining land use is `Forestry' and as such the Reclamation
Plan must specify the measures to be taken to revegetate the site, including the grass species
to be planted. The Reclamation Plan should include tree planting; the Applicant may wish to
contact the U.S. Forest Service for recommendations on tree planting. Please provide the
following information:
a. Explain how the seedbed will be prepared to eliminate compacted conditions (e.g.
plowed, chiseled, disced).
b.
