9. The U.S.F.S. recomends using a mixture of four species of native grasses. Use 10 pounds per
acre total. The seed is broadcast by hand on to the prepared reclamated topsoil and covered
with a maximum 1/2 inch of topsoil. Locally collected logs and branches are placed on the
reclamated area. These preserve the soil moisture, control erosion, and provide protection from
wind and wildlife for the seed. Please see additional two pages for more seed infomation.
10. The U.S.F.S. has recomended against importing straw bales for erosion control. Hay or straw
is likely to contain invasive non - native species. I have personally seen hay drops after the
Hayman fire which appear to contribute nothing to revegatation. My seeding efforts at my
previous operation (Purple Hill ) were successful) without any hay mulch. Locally collected logs
and branches are used to preserve soil moisture and control erosion.
11. North Twin Creek is located approximately 1100 feet south of the proposed open pit. North
Twin Creek is a very small perenial stream with minimal flow at any time of year.
12. 1 have submitted a Plan Of Operation to the U.S.F.S. South Park Ranger District. The State of
Colorado will receive a copy U.S.F.S. authorization as soon as it is available.
a
