10
CONTINUED FROM PAGE 4 OF NOI FORM
III Project Description
11. Surface excavation will include leveling each drill pad to accommodate drilling
and related equipment. One pit will be constructed on each pad Figure 1 provides the
general location of the project area. Figure 2 shows each drill pad and the main access
roads. Figures 3 through 9 show additional detail, including each individual drill hole and
respective pit location within the pad area (CONFIDENTIAL). Drill pads, approximately
75'x100' in area, will be constructed by removing vegetation and leveling the ground. If
possible, the cut vegetation will be stockpiled for use in reclamation. Available soil will
be stripped prior to construction and stockpiled for future reclamation. The stockpiles
will be covered to prevent erosion.
One pit approximately I O'x I O'W(deep) will be constructed at each drill pad for use during
drilling/coring operations. The pit will be constructed to contain drill cuttings, drilling muds,
and formation fluids (in the event groundwater is encountered during drilling).
Drill hole GRH -1 is a deeper hole and may require the use of a larger drill rig. A drill pad
200'x200' will be leveled and a containment pit 15'x40'x10'(deep) will be constructed to
store cuttings and drilling muds.
The drill pad sites were spotted adjacent to existing access roads, and will be accessed via
the existing roads. If necessary, individual access roads will be cut to each well site with
minimal additional surface disturbance. A brush hog (or similar equipment) will clear the
paths to the drill pads when appropriate, otherwise a dozer will be used to clear the
location and build the drill pad. The new access road driving surface will be
approximately 12' in width to accommodate sediment control measures, if necessary.
To access drill hole GRH -5 approximately 1,943' of an existing two -track road will
require upgrading. An additional 10' of area will be cleared to allow drill rig access and,
if necessary, sediment control measures.
12. A wireline core rig will be used in the drilling operations, with air as the primary
drilling medium. The holes will be cored from the surface to hole total depth. Any
produced cuttings will be retained in the pit adjacent to the hole. Refer to Table 1 for the
quantity, depth and width of each drill hole (CONFIDENTIAL). In the event water is
encountered, an air -mist drilling medium will be used. Mud and cutting returns will be
retained in the pit with the dimensions of approximately I O'x I O'W(deep). Drill hole
GRH -1 is a deeper hole which will require construction of a larger pad and drilling pit to
accommodate a larger drill rig. The drill pad will be approximately 200'x200' with a
15'x40'xI0'(deep) pit. Mud and cuttings will be retained in the pit.
CONTINUED FROM PAGE 4 OF NOI FORM
12.G. No chemicals or fuels will be stored on site. Drill holes will be air drilled using
