2.04.7 Hydrology Description
Map 23
Description
Elevation
Overburden
Map 9 Designation
13
Reds Spring & Pipeline
7,200
975
SP5 -3
16
Hughes Trust & Spring
7,320
1,095
P5 -5
62
Hughes Pipeline
7,320
1,095
SP -5 -4
The remaining water rights within the permit boundary are in the northeast
and northwest sections of the permit boundary and are owned by the USDA -
FS.
Agricultural use of water in the permit and adjacent area is derived from the
Fire Mountain Canal, Deer Trail Ditch, Terror Ditch, Blue Ribbon Ditch,
Majnik Ditch, Mayes Ditch, Jenkins Ditch No. 1 and 2, and Stephens Ditch.
All of the ditches have primary sources of water such as the North Fork of
the Gunnison River, Terror Creek and Hubbard Creek. Secondary sources
may include surface run -off and return flow from another ditch or canal.
The following information regarding ditches in the area is partially obtained
through verbal conversations and field meetings with Water Commissioner
Cliff Davis (527- 3995).
The main source of water for the Fire Mountain Canal is the North Fork of the
Gunnison River. The intake is overtwo miles upstream from the permit area
so the mine cannot impact the quality of water in this canal. The secondary
source of water for the canal includes surface run -off from the mine site and
return flow from the Deer Trail Ditch.
There are two parcels of land accessed by 4365 Lane. Both of these parcels
obtain irrigation water that flows under the railroad tracks from upland areas.
Both of these parcels of land are owned by the applicant.
There is an unnamed ditch that flows across land within the Terror Creek
Loadout permit area. The irrigation water flows under the railroad tracks to
land owned by the applicant.
The main source of water for the Deer Trail Ditch, Majnik Ditch and the
Mayes Ditch is Hubbard Creek. The Mayes Ditch and Majnick Ditch have
been combined and are now call the Mayes Ditch. The Deer Trail ditch runs
below the mine site so its secondary source of water may include surface
run -off from the mine. The Mayes Ditch does not run below the mine site.
PR-14 2.04-60- 03/14
