October 15, 2014 C -1982- 057 /Seneca II -W Mine JHB
SCC has completed repairs to PM -4 -D and adjacent drainage to the south. Additional rock was placed on
access road. SCC has repaired the gully under the erosion fabric at the outlet of this culvert and added additional
rip rap. Side slopes have been seeded and are already exhibiting grass seedling emergence.
The drainage at the outlet of Culvert PM -10has also received additional rip rap that extends further down the
drainage. A small sediment trap is in place at the inlet to Culvert PM -10. SCC has also keyed in log check dams
at selected spots. These repairs are satisfactory. SCC needs to remove abandoned erosion control materials; black
plastic corrugated 1/2 pipe & erosion fabric that have been left at the base of the slope.
SCC is also in the process of constructing a living snow fence as well as a wooden snow fence on the ridgeline
west of the two drainages. Seedling trees have been planted in parallel rows; 4 rows of juniper, 2 rows Douglas
fir, and 5 rows Ponderosa pine. (In accordance with approved species) Landscape fabric is anchored between the
rows. The site will be finished with a solar electric fence around the plot.
SCC is in the process of installing an 8 foot tall snow fence up- gradient of the living snow fence. The progress of
the fence appears that it should be complete prior to the winter snow pack.
REVEGETATION — Rule 4.15
Vegetative Cover; Timing:
SCC had recently conducted maintenance to Stock tank ST -9 outfall and had seeded adjacent to the outfall
channel. Cattle have used this recently seeded strip as a travel way. Vegetation along the west side of the channel
is well trampled. This area will need monitoring in the Spring to see if seeding efforts will be successful.
SCC had also graded and seeded a portion of the slope adjacent to Road G. This area of repair had good seedling
emergence of grasses.
Vegetation throughout the reclaimed area is in good shape overall with few problems.
Cattle were grazing throughout the mine site.
SCC has planted tree and shrub seedlings adjacent to pond 16 along J road. These seedlings are not fenced. Once
covered by snow, they should be protected by wildlife browsing.
OFFSITE SUPPORT FACILIITES - Rule 4.04,4.28:
The shop facilities are not staffed constantly at the Seneca II West Mine. SCC maintains mine records at
the Peabody Sage Creek Mine office.
DOCUMENTS RECEIVED None
OTHER (SPECIFY) NA
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 2
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 2
Page 4 of 8
