PERMIT #: M- 1977 -526
INSPECTOR'S INITIALS: TOD
INSPECTION DATE: October 6, 2014
OBSERVATIONS
This inspection was conducted by Tyler O'Donnell of the Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
(DRMS). Albert Frei & Sons Inc., was represented by Ben Frei during the inspection. Steve O'Brian with
Environment, Inc., the consultant representing Albert Frei & Sons Inc., was also present during the inspection.
The Worthing Pit is located in Adams County approximately 0.75 miles north of Henderson Colorado, just west
of Brighton road, and just east of the South Platte River. The Worthing Pit is a 160.9 -acre 112 Construction
Materials Reclamation Permit. The approved post- mining land uses are residential, recreation, and developed
water resource.
This inspection was conducted in response to citizen complaints that DRMS received from Norm Einspahr on
July 28, 2014 and from Steve Zigan on August 4, 2014. Both complaints explained that groundwater has risen
above historic levels. The complaints explained that the elevated groundwater table in the area between the
Stagecoach Pit and Pit 29 has caused or has potential to cause damage to property and structures in the
surrounding area.
Figure 1, below, shows the locations of the gravel pits, the slurry walls, monitoring wells, Worthing Pit backfill,
and the locations of Zigan Lake and Norm Einspahr's Property.
