TR-07 MINING PLAN <br /> configuration of that particular deposit of sand, thus indicating the possible extent of the local deposit and <br /> providing some idea of where to start mining so the overall direction of mining can be achieved. Once the <br /> excavation begins it is then expanded, following the sand where it leads. <br /> When a deposit runs out and a new area needs to be found, the old area is abandoned and final <br /> reclamation implemented there. Thus, as a consequence of the nature of these deposits, mining areas can <br /> be large or small or any other size and may be separated by areas that remain undisturbed. Of course this <br /> limits pre-mine planning to a more conceptual approach than the more customary well defined, location <br /> dependent approach. That is, the overall conceptual processes for mining and reclamation are well defined, <br /> but the extent and actual application to any one area must remain flexible so the circumstances of each <br /> area and the defined mining and reclamation processes can be adapted to best suit each site. <br /> In the exploration of the remaining area to be mined in TR-07 it was found that the sand tended to <br /> be fairly uniform. However, the distance between the exploratory pits was so wide, finer scale variations <br /> could have been missed. In the existing pit, the deposit has been found to be more variable than the <br /> exploration showed it should have been. Those variations have occurred between two pits that showed a <br /> similar deposit. It can therefore be assumed that higher variability than was indicated in the exploration <br /> has a higher probability of being true than not. Finer scale exploration of new or adjacent mining areas <br /> tends to be reliable in detecting generally where the better sands occur and where thick clay layers or <br /> columns occur. But even that does not detect all the variations. Therefore, considerable flexibility must be <br /> allowed in exactly how an area is mined so as to extract the sand most efficiently and economically <br /> without the need to dig through large volumes of worthless material to gain access to better material. <br /> Mining Processes <br /> Pre-mining Treatments: No longer necessary for the land to be mined in this revised plan. <br /> Topsoil Removal and Stockpiling: <br /> REQUIREMENT 7: Topsoil removal will occur to the full depth of the soil. Topsoil <br /> stockpiling will occur on land adjacent to the anticipated mining area. <br /> REQUIREMENT 8: Topsoil stockpiling will occur on land adjacent to the <br /> anticipated mining area. These stockpiles will be located where erosion of the piles will not result in <br /> excessive sedimentation into adjacent drainageways. The stockpiles should be located where a need to <br /> relocate the stockpile is minimized and where replacement of the soil on backfilled land is comparatively <br /> easy. <br /> Coal Creek Sand Resource Amendment 3 (2005)- M-1988-044 Exhibit D Page 10 <br />
