The project engineer has notified CDPHE that the project is completed and has been constructed
in compliance with the contract drawings and specifications.
VII. OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE
Operation and maintenance activities at the Golden Gilpin Mill Site will include inspection and
maintenance and repair of site grading, storm water controls and stream bank restoration. Initial
maintenance is covered under the construction contract. The contract requires warranty
inspections at intervals of six and eleven months after construction completion. Any necessary
contract maintenance will be performed following the eleven-month warranty inspection.
Long-term maintenance will be conducted by the Colorado Department of Public Health and
Environment, Hazardous Materials and Waste Management Division once the remedy is
Operational and Functional. CDPHE will conduct quarterly inspections of the site for the first
two years following construction. Inspections of the site will be conducted on an annual basis
after that. The primary task associated with long-term maintenance is to ensure that site-wide
drainage controls retain adequate capacity and are functioning as designed. Other tasks will
include monitoring the success of vegetation along the restored bank of North Clear Creek, and
ensuring that final grades are maintained. CDPHE will report annually to EPA the status of
inspection and maintenance activities at the site.
VIII. SUMMARY OF PROJECT COSTS
REMEDIAL DESIGN $ 43,636.00'
REMEDIAL ACTION
Construction $ 135,318.15
Engineer $ 12,319.00
TOTAL $ 189,273.15
IX. OBSERVATIONS AND LESSIONS LEARNED
Reclamation of the Golden Gilpin Mill Site was a relatively small, straight-forward project. All
phases of the project proceeded smoothly and there were no observations of note to report.
I -Remedial Design for the Golden Gilpin and Chase Gulch#2 sites was performed concurrently under a single
contract. Therefore,RD costs for the Golden Gilpin are approximately 65%of the amount shown in Section VIII.
