Section No. 2.2.4
Revision No. 0
Date May 1, 1977 ~
• Yage 12 of 17 I
For samplers equipped with neither an elapsed time
indicator nor a continuous flow rate recorder, the local power
company should be contacted to see if the power has been off
anytime during the sampling period. If so, record the length
of time that the power was off and the source of the infor-
mation on Figure 3".,2, the remarks line.
Void samples when the sampling period is less than
23 hours or greater than 25 hours.
4.4 Sample Handling
4.4.1 Removinq Exposed Filter - Place the sampler in the
servicing position, Figure 4.1. Remove the faceplate and lift
the exposed filter from the supporting screen by grasping it
gently at the ends, not at the corners. With the exposed side
in, fold the filter lengthwise at the middle, and if the
• collected sample is not centered on the filter (i.e., the un-
exposed border is not uniform around the filter) fold so that
deposit touches only deposit. Results of an improperly folded
filter are illustrated in Figure 4.7 where smudge marks from
the deposit can be seen extending across the borders. This
reduces the value of the sample for some analyses in which the
collected sample must be subdivided into equal portions.
Place the filter in its numbered folder.
For samplers equipped with a flow rate recorder, remove
the sample's recorder chart; record the stop time on the back
side, and place the chart inside the filter folder with the
inked side against the folder and the back side against the
filter.
Place the folder containing the exposed filter and the
flow recorder chart, if used, in a glassine envelope. This
envelope is then placed in a mailing container if it is to
• be mailed.
