October 7, 2014C-1981-014/Southfield MineRDZ
at this site other than a riprap drop structure at the lower end. This area will require very close monitoring to
insure that sediment is not transported into the adjacent undisturbed area.
RECLAMATION SUCCESS -Rule 4.15, Rule 3:
At the portal area, RDA, Pond 3, loadout, and other reclaimed areas of the site no large bare spots,
erosion, or weed patches were seen. The RDA was inspected from the road/track alongthe toe, and the northeast
corner (directly above Pond 4) was walked.
The erosion control practices (BMPs) at the portal area were inspected. Near the gravel lot, some maintenance is
needed: an erosion mat is no longer laying flat on the ground, sediment should be removed from behind the
wattles, and more wattles are recommended. At the northwest corner of the truck tunnel, the area looks good.
REVEGETATION –Rule 4.15
Vegetative Cover; Timing:
As mentioned in the general narrative, Kent Crofts was seen at the portal area, performing a survey of
shrubs, and the results of this survey will likely be documented in vegetation reports. Mr. Crofts indicated that he
was (at the time) almost finished with his 2014 vegetation sampling.
SUBSIDENCE –Rule 4.20:
The inspection included the six subsidence repair areas that are between the RDA and County Road 15
(near the Thompson driveway). Much of the emerging vegetation is weeds in these areas. There were no signs of
cracks or slumps in these areas orthe surrounding area: an approximate 500-foot perimeter was walked around
these areas.
SUPPORT FACILITIES -Rule 4.04:
At the Rock Dust Storage Tank facility, the majority of the area has not changed and no problems were
seen. There was an areawith fresh disturbance, a steel tube marker sticking out of the ground, and flagging; this
disturbance is likely reclamation of a borehole or part of the former electric utilities.
At Power Substation No. 2, the fence has been taken down, oil removed (per George Patterson), and possibly some
equipment removed. No sign of oil or other pollutants was seen.
The Monarch Fan area was well vegetated, and no erosion or weed patches were seen.
OFFSITE SUPPORT FACILIITES -Rule 4.04, 4.28:
See Hydrology section for discussion of ponds at the loadout. The rest of the loadout area was inspected,
and no erosion, large weed patches, or other problems were seen.
Number of PartialInspection this Fiscal Year: 3
Number of CompleteInspections this Fiscal Year: 1
312
Page of
