Spring 2014 Subsidence and Geologic Field Observations
South of Divide and Dry Fork Mining Areas (E -Seam)
Figure 9. Northeastward view of a relatively continuous subsidence crack located on the
southeastern edge of the MDW E4 -14 pad. This crack had a maximum width of 1.75 inches and
a depth of 20 inches.
4.7.2 Location 5
Location 5 is an area originally observed during the fall 2013 field visit that included several
subsidence - related features over a distance of about 300 feet in, or adjacent to, the access road to
MDW E4 -11 on the north side of Dry Fork (Map 1). On the west end of this area, three cracks
with a nearly east -west orientation were observed in the road. Figure 10 depicts one of these cracks
as observed during the fall 2013 field visit, while Figure 11 depicts the same location as observed
during the spring 2014 visit. Note how the large subsidence crack in the foreground has healed
and filled sufficiently with material to allow vegetation to grow. Overburden at this location is
about 790 feet.
831 - 032.795 Wright Water Engineers, Inc. Page 20
September 2014
