September 10, 2014 C- 1982 - 057 /Seneca II -W Mine JHB
embankment was well vegetated. Diffuse knapweed was observed on the Pond 006 outslope embankment. (Photo
1) The knapweed was located on the south side of the embankment adjacent to the emergency spillway. SCC
needs to cut back the willows near the discharge flume.
Stock tank T -3 was holding a pool of water but was well below the discharge elevation. No problems were noted
with this stock tank.
Pond 016 was discharging clear effluent. The seep on the NE side of Pond 016 has been stabilized with large
rock. No problems were noted with this stabilization effort. The Stevens recorder on the Pond 016 flume had
been recorded at 9:15 on 9/10/2014, as discharge 0.03 and the chart paper replaced at that time.
Canada thistle has become established on the north side of Pond 016. This area should be included in SCC's
regular weed control efforts.
Repairs to the east side of Pond 017 are good and appear stable. Clods of dirt have sloughed in front of the
Culvert 18 outlet. (Photo) SCC needs to clear this dirt away. One extra CMP is located south of Pond 017. This
CMP should be removed to keep it from blowing or rolling around.
The artesian flow continues to express on the surface east of the previous well location. SCC has shaped this
spring area with rock. This is north of a fenced shrub plot.
Stocktank ST -1 was damp but not holding water. The embankment of stock tank ST -1 needs additional thistle
control measures. The risers are fine, vegetation on the embankment remains thin, leading to a slightly weedy
condition on the embankment.
Pond 9 was viewed through binoculars from the top of the ridgeline. No cattle were grazing at Pond 009 at this
time. One white horse was observed grazing below the pond 009 embankment. Pond 009 was not discharging,
and the water level was several feet below the discharge point on the riser.
Stock tank T18 was holding water. Stock tank T -18 appears in good condition. Cattle were grazing east of Stock
tank T -18. No problems were observed with drainage (southeast) of Stock tank T -18.
Stock Tank T -20 was not holding water, this stock tank was damp from recent rains but had a good stand of
cattails established in the bottom of the impoundment. No problems were observed with T -20.
Stock Tank T -22 has been brought into agreement with the approved design. T -22 now functions as a stock tank
instead of a rock dam. This repair is acceptable.
Pond 005 was not discharging. No concerns were noted with Pond 005.
Stocktank T -24 was well vegetated and not holding any water.
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 2
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 1
Page 3 of 10
