Standards are primarily based on the material's flashpoint, but <br />may also take into account <br />properties such as miscibility with water or toxicity. All local and national regulations should be <br />followed. <br />In the Americas, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 30: Flammable and Combustible <br />Liquids Code, is a widely <br />used standard. NFPA 30 establishes storage conditions for the following classes of materials: <br />Class I Flammable Liquids, <br />Flashpoint <37.8 T. Class II Combustible Liquids, 37.8 °C < Flashpoint <60 °C. Class Illa <br />Combustible Liquids, 60 °C < <br />Flashpoint < 93 °C. Class Illb Combustible Liquids, Flashpoint > 93 °C. <br />Storage Temperature: Room temperature <br />Reason: Safety. <br />When handling MIBC, the following PPE should be used: tight fitting chemical safety goggles or face <br />shield and protective gloves and clothing. A MSHA approved dust mask or respirator should be worn if <br />conditions are if fumes are present. It is recommended that adequate ventilation or a local exhaust <br />system be used. Wash thoroughly after handling. <br />In the event of a spill /release where level of exposure is unknown, a positive pressure, self - contained <br />respirator is required. In addition to the PPE discussed above, impermeable boots are recommended. <br />The MIBC can be covered with inert absorbent and swept up into containers for appropriate disposal. <br />Water can be used to flush the spill area. <br />3.5 Spill Reporting <br />A spill or release notification form will be completed upon detection of any spill /release by the <br />Environmental Manager and prior to reporting a spill to the proper notification contacts. <br />3.6 Inspections, Tests, and Records <br />Star Mine Operations performs the inspections, tests, and evaluations listed in the following Table 3 -1. <br />The table summarizes the various types of inspections and tests performed at the facility. <br />13 <br />
