Topsoil was removed, set aside and subsequently used for final reclamation use in
locations where excavation would require replacement of material and redistribution of
topsoil for proper revegetation. Vegetation was not cleared for more than the width
necessary.
No surfacing was utilized for the light use roads. The light use road was
maintained adequate for its intended use and watered as necessary to control dust.
The light use road was completely removed and the land affected was regraded
to approximate original contour, revegetated and mulched.
2.2.3 Coal Processing and Work Area
Initial site construction was limited to the excavation of a small bench, 2.69
acres, necessary to support the exploration operation. The bench site was selected
and approved by virtue of a joint on site inspection by the United States Geological
Survey, Bureau of Land Management and representatives of the Operator. This bench
is shown in Figure 2.2-4.
The Portal bench area was reclaimed in 2007.
2.2.4 Storage and Stockpile Sites
Topsoil stockpiles existing and reclaimed are shown on Figure 2.2-1, with
management discussed in Section 2.4.3. Most of the refuse disposal area topsoil
stockpile was utilized in 2007. A portion remains and will be utilized for the sediment
pond, once the vegetation established is adequate and the pond can be reclaimed.
The other two topsoil stockpiles were utilized for the 2007 reclamation effort.
RN-05
2-10
09/07
