SITE DESCRIPTION EXHIBIT B (CONT)
usable as topsoil . Lying below this upper layer is a layer of
sandy loam and then a sandy gravel strata that is 20 feet or more
deep. This soil type falls in the capability subclass 3e non-
irrigated and the ecological site classification as Loamy Plains .
On this site the topsoil coverage ranges from 3 to 6 inches
that can and will be salvaged and replaced on the seedbed when
reclamation begins . All topsoil will be salvaged for use during
reclamation and on average will be replaced from 4 to 6 inches
deep on the seedbed. Underlying the topsoil is a 5 to 6 foot
lens of overburden and then a 20 to 25 foot lens of gravelly sand
that will be mined. Some of the overburden will be salvaged for
use as growth medium if needed. The plan is to mine 20+ feet
deep leaving the mine floor with a gentle slope from the toe of
the south excavation slope to the north to facilitate drainage .
As the mine is developed it may be possible to mine deeper. If
than happens the final slopes will be graded as discussed in the
sloping plan.
5
