SITE DESCRIPTION EXHIBIT B
SOILS INFORMATION
The following information was obtained from the basic soils
and vegetation information found through the USDA' s National
Soils information page and the Soil Survey of Yuma County. The
vegetation information and seeding recommendations were prepared
using information provided by the NRCS . There are three soil
units shown on the USDA map, reproduced on page 7 following this
text . The photo map shows the surrounding vegetation features
and soil types . This area has a good grass and forb cover is in
good shape . It gently slopes from south to north with the
southern end running along a small ridge of exposed gravelly
sand. This deposit is considered a terrace deposit since it lies
out side and above Rock Creek on a ridge of gravelly sand that
parallels the streambed.
The 15 - Eckley-gravelly sandy loam, 3 to 7% slopes soil series
covers approximately 4 . 1 acres (41%) of this mine site . The
general soils description indicates that this soil is well
drained soil found on ridges and low hills parallel to dry creek
beds . The upper most horizon is about 5 inches of a grayish
brown gravely sandy loam that will be usable as topsoil and a
layer of sandy loam overburden that ranges from 5 to 6 feet deep.
Lying below this upper layer is a sandy gravel strata that is 20
feet or more deep . This material is suitable for pit run mate-
rial that can be used as road base and course fill . This soil
type falls in the capability subclass 6e nonirrigated and the
ecological site classification as gravel breaks .
The 32 - Paoli sandy loam soil series covers approximately 5 . 2
acres (51 . 8%) of this mine site . The general soils description
indicates that this soil is deep, well drained soil found on
floodplains and second-bottom stream terraces in the northern
part of Yuma County. The upper most horizon is about 5 inches of
a grayish brown sandy loam that will be usable as topsoil . Lying
below this upper layer is a sandy strata that is 3 to 5 feet deep
and a layer of gravely sand that is 20 feet or more deep. This
material is rockier then the material to the south and is suit-
able for crushed stone products . This soil type falls in the
capability subclass 3e nonirrigated and the ecological site
classification as Sandy Plains .
The 35 - Platner loam soil series covers approximately 0 . 7
acres (7 . 2%) of this mine site . The general soils description
indicates that this soil is a deep, well drained soil found on
planes in the northwestern part of the county. The upper most
horizon is about 6 inches of a grayish brown loam that will be
4
