Greeley 35th Ave Pit — Groundwater /ModFlow Results, Preliminary Adequacy Review
Page 2
September 11, 2014
the influence of these ponds, the Division believes more attention should be paid to these
zero - gradient boundaries. Please address the assumption to ignore or inadequately model
these zero - gradient boundaries /model cells.
Specific Comment
3. Paragraph 1.3 and Figure 5 — It appears to the Division that the predicted drawdown
contours were erroneously obtained. Perhaps by subtracting the present surface
conditions from the predicted slurry wall conditions, rather than vice versa. The results
on Figure 5 and the text referencing these results in paragraph 1.3 indicate mounding
downgradient of the slurry wall and shadowing upgradient of the slurry wall. Of course
this does not make intuitive sense. Please correct your model results and text summary,
or explain this unexpected result.
If either you or the applicants have any questions regarding the comments above, please call me
at (303) 866 -3567, extension 8169.
