AVCOLORADO
Division of Reclamation,
Mining and Safety
Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
September 11, 2014
Sean Frisch
Lafarge West, Inc.
8700 Bryn Mawr Ave, Ste 300
Chicago, IL 60631
RE: Bluestone Pit; DRMS File No. M- 1991 -035; Receipt of Technical Revision No. 4
Dear Mr. Frisch,
The Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety (Division) received Technical Revision - 4 for
the above referenced site on August 12, 2014. The decision date for this Technical Revision is
September 12, 2014. The Division has reviewed the Technical Revision Application and has the
following comments:
1. A review of the permit file found that several of the requested changes were already
approved through Technical Revision No. 3 (TR -03). Please confirm that these requested
changes were addressed through TR -03 and withdraw them from further consideration under
this submittal:
a. Breach existing silt ponds to create a single flow through system that drains water
from the site.
b. Minor changes to the grading plan to better match the existing contours and allow for
better flow through the site.
c. Change seed mixtures to be used during final reclamation.
2. Please indicate if the Operator holds a storm water discharge permit from the Water Quality
Control Division and if so, provide a copy of the permit.
3. Please indicate if the proposed channel on the south side of the groundwater pond has been
designed to accommodate a particular size storm, i.e. I Oyear /24hour.
4. The design for the proposed overflow channel does not include armoring. The Division is
concerned about possible erosion within the channel during a flood event. Please provide a
justification for not armoring. Alternately, the Applicant may revise the plan to include
armoring within the channel.
of C0
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215, Denver, CO 80203 P 303.866.3567 F 303.832.8106 http: / /mining.state.co.us
John W.
