CWDA No. 2
901319 -0001 Huddlestoa•Berry
09/02/14
Discussion
As indicated in the referenced report, the stability of CWDA No. 2 is sensitive to increases in
pore pressures in VWP -08. An increase in the pore pressure of 7 psi in VWP -08 would result in
a reduction of the Factor of Safety to below 1.5.
The referenced report also evaluated impacts to CWDA No. 2 stability of increases in pore
pressures in VWP -06. The analyses indicated that increases of up to 10 psi would not reduce the
Factor of Safety to below 1.5.
The monitoring data show a moderate increase in pore pressure in VWP -06. This is consistent
with the fact that this instrument is closest to the active filling area.
The monitoring data also shows a slight increase in pore pressure in VWP -08. However, the
total increase in pore pressure in VWP -08 since the analyses included in the referenced report is
only 0.7 psi. This is well below the 7 psi threshold for reducing the Factor of Safety to below
1.5.
In general, based upon the results of the recent pore pressure monitoring data, HBET does not
believe that there is any reduction in the stability of CWDA No. 2. In addition, based upon the
errors previously identified by BG1 resulting in lower pore pressures in VWP -08, VWP -09, and
VWP -10, HBET does not believe that ongoing monthly monitoring is warranted. Quarterly
monitoring is recommended.
We are pleased to be of service to your project. Please contact us if you have any questions or
comments regarding the contents of this report.
Respectfully Submitted:
Huddlestou -Berry Engineering and Testing, LLC
Michael A.
