The weather was highly variable, and the permit area received rainfall during the early
hours of the 27th.
I contacted Basil Bear at the Bowie No. 2 Mine office upon my arrival on the 26th, and
announced the inspection. Mr. Bear was present for the records check on the 27th, and
accompanied me into the field to inspect Ponds 3 and 4 at the East Mine.
SIGNS AND MARKERS — Rule 4.02:
• Mine ID signs were posted at public access points to the West Mine, East Mine, Well Field,
Loadout, and Timber Storage Area.
• During the June 2014 inspection, the Division noted an apparent shortage of permit boundary
and disturbance markers at distal portions of the Paonia Loadout. We discussed the markers
during this inspection, and Mr. Bear said BRL will make progress on posting them this fall.
Please ensure that the markers are in place no later than the end of 2014.
SUPPORT FACILITIES - Rule 4.04:
The Loadout was inspected on the afternoon of August 27a'. Miscellaneous pieces of
underground mining equipment are stored on the benched areas. A load of hay or straw bales
was stacked on the concrete pad area southwest of the shop building.
• Railroad ties, rails, and plates remained stacked neatly at various locations at the Loadout.
Mr. Bear said the company who dismantled the rail line will collect them from the site when
they have an installation project at another location.
• BRL will not be salvaging the railroad ballast during 2014.
HYDROLOGIC BALANCE - Rule 4.05
Drainage Control 4.05.1, 4.05.2, 4.05.3; Siltation Structures 4.05.5, 4.05.6; Discharge Structures
4.05.7, 4.05.10; Diversions 4.05.4; Effluent Limits 4.05.2; Ground Water Monitoring 4.05.13;
Surface Water Monitoring 4.05.13; Drainage — Acid and Toxic Materials 4.05.8; Impoundments
4.05.6, 4.05.9; Stream Buffer Zones 4.05.18:
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 1
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 1 Page 2 of 10
