Soils Conditions
The size of the proposed Loadout Reference Area is approximately 1.02 acres. Upon
superimposing the USDA -NRCS soils mapping onto the Loadout Reclamation Area, it can be
determined that this site contains approximately 34,979 SF or 79.16 percent of soils mapping
unit 52 or the Loamy Plains and Gravel Breaks Range Sites and approximately 9,209 SF or 20.84
percent of soils mapping unit 105 or the Overflow Range Site. Since the Loamy Plains and
Gravel Breaks Range Sites account for 40.33 and 28.65 percent, respectively of the soils
associated with the Loadout Reclaimed Areas, it can be concluded that the soil types and
corresponding range sites associated with this proposed reference area account for approximately
68.98 percent of "dominant pre- mining and post- mining soils conditions" as are required by the
Vegetation Guideline and satisfies the similarity of soils and vegetation conditions requirement.
SUMMARY
This summary documents that the proposed Southfield Mine Loadout Reference Area satisfies
the similarity of vegetation types, slope, dominant aspect, elevation, management, geology, size
and soils conditions criteria required for a proposed reference area and are therefore, suitable for
the new Loadout Reference Area.
