PROPOSED LOADOUT REFERENCE AREA
The proposed Loadout Reference Area (RA) is located on the north side of the Loadout
Reclaimed Area, on the east side of the County Road, (CR -79) on a relatively flat piece of
ground which borders the reclamation on the RA's entire southern side. This site was selected
after a careful inspection of the Loadout Permit Area and consists of the largest piece of
undisturbed land within the fenced boundaries of the Southfield Mine Loadout site.
Vegetation Type
Examination of the available information documents that this site consists of the identical
vegetation type associated with the reclaimed area found on the Southfield Loadout area. As are
documented in the 1980 Vegetation Report, essentially all of this area was disturbed at the time it
was originally permitted. This proposed location is located as close as possible to the middle of
this reclaimed area and thus is considered to be representative of the entire site being considered
for final bond release. According to the Soil Survey of Fremont County Area, Colorado, this
site was dominated by warm season grass species with Blue Grama being the dominant species
and with Sideoats Grama, Sand Dropseed, Western Wheatgrass and Indian Ricegrass as the
major sub - dominants. Average annual forage production was typically between 750 and 800
pounds of air -dry forage per acre.
Slope
The slopes on this site range from zero to approximately five- percent. These slopes are very
similar to those associated with the reclaimed areas on the Southfield Mine Loadout reclaimed
area.
Dominant Aspect
The predominant aspect of this reference area is primarily toward the south, just like almost all
of the areas associated with the Loadout Reclamation Area. Although there are minor deviations
where there are eastern, and westerly aspects as well.
Elevation
The proposed Loadout Reference Area is almost at the exact elevations of the reclaimed parcel
on the west side of the County Road and less than forty or fifty feet higher than nearly all of the
eastern reclaimed block. Thus, it is essentially within the same elevation as is the reclamation
associated with this site.
Management
The proposed Loadout Reference Area is located within the fenced boundary of the Loadout
Area and is immediately next to the boundary of the Loadout Reclaimed Area. Thus, it receives
the identical management as the rest of the Loadout Reclaimed Area being evaluated for final
bond release.
Geology
The geological conditions associated with the proposed Southfield Loadout RA are essentially
identical to those associated with the adjacent Loadout Reclaimed Areas.
