All were
Mountain sumac (Rhus glabra). NECC should review the revegetation plan and consider planting more
shrubs in order to satisfy the success criteria.
Also in the shrub plot, at least 4 substantial Tamarisk (Tamarix spp.) plants were observed. Tamarisk is a
"List B" noxious weed in Colorado and must be eradicated, contained or suppressed depending on the infestation.
In the context of the Lorencito Canyon mine eradication would be appropriate. Tamarisk was previously identified
in the inspection report of July 23, 2013, and has not been treated. NECC should prioritize treating this noxious
weed. The Colorado Department of Agriculture produce a fact sheet about tamarisk which is available online at
http: / /www.colorado.gov /cs /Satellite /ag Conservation/CBON /1251621067075
NECC had not completed any seasonal weed spraying at the time of the inspection. Weeds were not a
serious problem, but a few weeds were observed (e.g. Canadian thistle (Cirsium arvense) around pond 6) and
should at least be spot treated.
SLIDES and DAMAGE - Rule 4.12:
Damage to the downdrains on fills 7 and 9 is described above.
DOCUMENTS RECEIVED
N/A
OTHER (SPECIFY)
N/A
ENFORCEMENT ACTIONS /COMPLIANCE
No enforcement actions were initiated as a result of this inspection, nor are any pending.
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 1
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 1
Page 4 of 20
