2. The compacted clay core for the embankment shall consist of inorganic mixtures <br />of remolded claystone bedrock. The material shall be classified CL or CH <br />according to the Unified Soil Classification System with a minimum of 60 <br />percent passing the No. 200 sieve. The material shall be obtained from required <br />excavation of on -site weathered bedrock, borrow areas, or other sources. The <br />soils shall be free of any deleterious materials including materials larger than two <br />inches in diameter. <br />B. Zone II: Compacted Shell <br />1. Local borrow material from on -site overburden. <br />2. The compacted embankment shell shall consist of inorganic clayey sand material. <br />The material shall be classified SC according to the Unified Soil Classification <br />System with at least 15 percent, by weight, of plastic fines passing the No. 200 <br />sieve. The shell embankment material shall be free of any organics, trash, debris <br />or any other deleterious materials including materials larger than 8 inches in <br />diameter. <br />C. Zone III: Dewatering Trench <br />1. Local borrow material from on -site sands and gravels. <br />2. The dewatering trench soil surrounding the dewatering pipeline shall consist of <br />inorganic sand and gravel material. The material shall be classified SW or GW, <br />according to the Unified Soil Classification System with a maximum of 25 <br />percent, by weight, passing the No. 8 sieve and less than 5 percent, by weight, <br />passing the No. 200 sieve. Dewatering trench material shall be highly permeable <br />and free of any organics, trash, debris or any other deleterious materials including <br />materials larger than 3 inches in diameter except that the material within 6 inches <br />of the pipe shall be less than 1 inch in diameter.. <br />2.2 TOPSOIL MATERIALS <br />A. Topsoil: <br />1. Local borrow material from on -site topsoil. <br />2. Free of roots, rocks larger than 1 inch, subsoil, debris, large weeds and foreign <br />matter. <br />2.3 SOURCE QUALITY CONTROL <br />A. Section 0140 00 - Quality Requirements <br />B. When tests indicate materials do not meet specified requirements, change material and <br />retest. <br />PART 3 EXECUTION <br />3.1 EXCAVATION <br />A.
