City of
Greeley
gst 22, 2014
Via Email
Gilbert Y. Marchand, Esq.
2737 Mapleton Avenue, Suite 202
Boulder, CO 80304
Re: 'fZodmans' Demand Regarding Greeley's Sand and Gravel Mine, 25th Avenue Site,
M-2002-020
Dear Mr. Marchand:
Thank you for your letter dated August 8, 2014. We understand the Rodmans' desire to resolve
their well production problems. Greeley has made numerous efforts to address any potential
impacts its dewatering activities at the 25th Avenue Site may have caused. These efforts have
included:
- Conducting pump tests of the Rodman wells.
- Reconditioning the Rodman wells.
- Replacing well pumps and connecting them to the Rodman irrigation system.
- Installation of a temporary cistern, connecting it to one of the Rodman wells and
irrigation system, and filling the cistern with hauled water when necessary.
- Drilling test holes to determine whether a replacement well would be feasible.
- Irrigating portions of the Rodmans' property with an irrigation truck.
- Reimbursing the Rodmans' purchase of hay for their horses.
We have made these efforts knowing that well production problems could be attributable to a
number of influences unrelated to Greeley's activities, including the dewatering operations of
other nearby operators and the cessation of irrigation in the general area.
Most recently, Greeley paid for the installation of an 8,000-gallon cistern on the Rodman
property, and the connection of the cistern to the Rodmans' irrigation system and one of their
wells. The installation and connection of the cistern was completed in June this year. In the
week of July 21st, Mr. Bill Rodman contacted Greeley Water Resources Manager Jim Hall and
informed him that additional water was needed to fill the cistern. The cistern was promptly filled
with hauled water. We have continued to provide hauled water upon notification from Mr.
City Attorney's Office . 1100 loth Street,Suite 401,Greeley,CO 80631 (970)350-9757 Fax(970)350-9763
We promise to preserve and improve the quality of life for Greeley through timely, courteous and cost-effective service.
