August 11, 2014 C- 1981- 025/North Thompson Creek Mine BFB
GENERAL MINE PLAN COMPLIANCE:
The refuse pile pond was incorporated back into the permit in TR -28. By incorporating the pond back into
the permit, the water holding capacity is increased for the developed water resource. This is beneficial for the
landowner who holds the water rights to the mine discharge water. The new permitted area is about 330 feet wide
and extends 1000 feet beyond the current permit boundary for a total of 7.5 acres. The new permitted acreage was
inspected during this inspection. Drawing D -3 -2 was geo- referenced in ArcMap and used in a Trimble YUMA
GPS unit to navigate the permit boundary.
The northern permit boundary was well vegetated with grasses and shrubs (photo 4). The boundary is just north of
the refuse pile pond but does not include the refuse pile or the refuse pile drainage ditch.
The eastern permit boundary starts just east of the refuse pond, runs south, down the hill and crosses North
Thompson Creek (NTC). It is well vegetated with grasses on the northern part and dense trees and shrubs on the
southern part. A fence line appeared to be in the location of the eastern permit boundary.
The east end of the southern permit boundary starts south of NTC in tall trees with a dense understory. NTC
crosses the southern permit boundary several times (photo 5). The vegetation is very dense along the creek with
several downed trees across the creek.
RECLAMATION SUCCESS - Rule 4.15, Rule 3:
The 41 portal was very well vegetated with grasses and forbs.
There was a large stand of plumeless thistle on the 41 portal (photo 6) and the refuse pile berm. Plumeless thistle
is a Colorado List B noxious weed and it needs to be treated.
A couple of houndstongue plants were seen on the north side of the bridge and on the long pond berm, east end.
Houndstongue is a Colorado List B noxious weed and needs to be treated.
SIGNS AND MARKERS — Rule 4.02:
The mine entrance sign with the permit number is missing.
ENFORCEMENT ACTIONS /COMPLIANCE
No enforcement actions were initiated as a result of this inspection, nor are any pending.
Number of Partial Inspection this Fiscal Year: 1
Number of Complete Inspections this Fiscal Year: 1
Page 3 of 5
