• including diversion of Magpie Creek away from the mine portal area to
ensure that surface flows do not enter the Southfield Mine workings. Upon
completion of mining and related activities, mine portals will be sealed
and backfilled to further preclude any potential transfer of water between
surface and groundwater systems in the portal area.
4.05.17 POST-MINING REHABILITATION OF SEDIMENTATION PONDS, DIVERSIONS,
IMPOUNDMENTS ANO TREATMENT FACILITIES
No permanent sedimentation ponds, impoundments or treatment facilities are
planned. EFCI has however designed and constructed a permanent diversion
and several permanent collection ditches to provide effective long-term
drainage control for the permanent coal refuse stockpile. Upon completion
of mining and related operations and in conjunction with site reclamation
activities, EFCI will also complete modifications to the existing Magpie
Creek diversion in order to effect compliance with applicable regulatory
• requirements for permanent diversions. All necessary modifications will
be completed during site reclamation operations and prior to the end of
the extended reclamation liability period.
In conjunction with reclamation of all areas disturbed by mining and
related activities, EFCI will reestablish an effective post-mining
drainage configuration as shown on the Mine Area Post-Mining Topography
Map, (Map 28) and Loadout Area Post-Mining Topography Map, (Map 29).
Post-mining drainages have been designed in compliance with requirements
for permanent diversions presented in Rules 4.05.3 and 4.05.4 and provide
drainage distribution, and density characteristics similar to the pre-
mising environment. Anticipated runoff characteristics and site
geomorphic considerations have been incorporated in post-mining drainage
designs to ensure long-tern stability, minimize erosion, and prevent
significant additional contributions of suspended solids to area
drainages.
~1
~J
4.05-28
