• discussions of the chemical characteristics of these materials are
presented in Sections 2.04. 6, Geology Description, 2.04.9, Soils Resource
Information, and Exhibit 9, Comparison of Refuse and Soil Suitabilities.
Since no potential acid or toxic forming materials are present, the
provisions of this section are not applicable.
4.05.9 PERMANENT AND TEMPORARY IMPOUNDMENTS
EFCI does not propose any permanent impoundments within the mine or
loadout areas. Upon restoration of disturbed areas, all sedimentation
ponds and water storage and treatment impoundments will be removed and
associated disturbance areas reclaimed. In addition, all reclaimed areas
will be regraded to reestablish natural drainage patterns and eliminate
any significant depressions which could impound water.
Five (5) temporary impoundments including Sedimentation Ponds 1, 4 and 5,
Water Treatment and Recycle Pond No. 2, and Freshwater Pond No. 3,
• currently exist in the mine area and will be utilized in conjunction with
ongoing mining and related activities. These temporary impoundments are
shown on the Mine Area Surface and Groundwater Hydrology Map, (Map 12) and
Drainage and Sediment Control Map, (Map 20). Two (2) additional temporary
impoundments, Sedimentation Ponds L-1 and L-2 have been constructed and
are currently utilized in the Southfield loadout area to provide for
effective drainage and sediment control for areas effected by ongoing
loadout activities. The loadout area sedimentation ponds are graphically
illustrated on the Loadout Area Surface and Groundwater Hydrology Map,
(Map 13). Temporary impoundments in both the mine and loadout area as
discussed in Sections 2.04.7, 2.05.3, 2.05.4, 2.05.6, and 4.05.6, and
Exhibit 9, Drainage and Sediment Control Plan, meet the specific
requirements of 4.05.6 (2), 4.05.6 (3)(d) and 4.05.6 (5) through 4.05.6
(9)•
Water Treatment and Recycle Pond No. 2 is a partially incised non-
discharging pond designed to contain approximately 600,000 gallons of
• water. Pond 2 is a sealed pond lined with a synthetic hypalon liner which
extends beyond the edges of the pond. The pond operates in closed circuit
with the preparation plan process water system and serves as a reservoir
4.05-21
